🎯 ¿Qué es el reported speech?

El reported speech se usa para contar lo que alguien dijo, pensó, explicó o preguntó. En vez de repetir las palabras exactas, reportamos la idea.

Direct speech She said, "I am tired."
shi sed ai am taird
Ella dijo: “Estoy cansada”.

Reported speech She said that she was tired.
shi sed dat shi was taird
Ella dijo que estaba cansada.

📌 Idea clave: muchas veces el tiempo verbal cambia un paso hacia atrás.

✅ 1. Said vs Told

Say / said se usa para decir algo. Tell / told normalmente necesita una persona después.

Forma	Ejemplo	Español
said	She said that she was busy.	Ella dijo que estaba ocupada.
told me	She told me that she was busy.	Ella me dijo que estaba ocupada.
told us	They told us that they needed help.	Ellos nos dijeron que necesitaban ayuda.

🧩 2. Cambios comunes de tiempo verbal

Cuando reportamos algo, muchas veces el tiempo cambia hacia el pasado.

am / is / are	was / were	I am happy → She said she was happy.
present simple	past simple	I work here → He said he worked there.
present continuous	past continuous	I am studying → She said she was studying.
past simple	past perfect	I called him → She said she had called him.
will	would	I will help → He said he would help.
can	could	I can go → She said she could go.

📌 3. Cambios de pronombres

También cambian los pronombres según quién habla y de quién estamos hablando.

Directo Maria said, "I am ready."
María dijo: “Estoy lista”.

Reportado Maria said that she was ready.
María dijo que ella estaba lista.

He said, "My phone is new."
ji sed mai foun is niu

He said that his phone was new.
ji sed dat jis foun was niu
Él dijo que su teléfono era nuevo.

⏰ 4. Cambios de expresiones de tiempo y lugar

Cuando reportamos algo después, algunas palabras de tiempo y lugar cambian.

❓ 5. Preguntas en reported speech

Cuando reportamos preguntas, usamos el orden normal de una oración. No usamos el orden de pregunta directa.

Pregunta directa	Reported speech	Español
Where do you live?	She asked me where I lived.	Ella me preguntó dónde vivía.
Are you ready?	He asked me if I was ready.	Él me preguntó si estaba lista.
What are you doing?	They asked me what I was doing.	Ellos me preguntaron qué estaba haciendo.

📌 En preguntas de yes/no usamos if o whether: He asked if I was ready.

❌ Errores comunes

Incorrecto	Correcto	Por qué
She told that she was tired.	She said that she was tired.	Told necesita persona: told me, told us.
He said he is busy.	He said he was busy.	Muchas veces el tiempo cambia hacia atrás.
She asked where did I live.	She asked where I lived.	En reported questions usamos orden normal.

📝 Test rápido: reported speech

Elige la respuesta correcta y corrige tu examen al final.

1. Directo: “I am tired.” Reportado:

She said she is tired. She said she was tired. She told that tired. She said she tired.

2. Completa: He ___ me that he needed help.

said told spoke talked

3. Directo: “I will call you.” Reportado:

She said she would call me. She said she will called me. She said she called me. She told she would call me.

4. Pregunta directa: “Where do you live?” Reportada:

She asked where did I live. She asked where I lived. She asked where do I live. She said where I live.

5. “Can” normalmente cambia a:

could would had did

6. Directo: “Are you ready?” Reportado:

He asked me if I was ready. He asked me was I ready. He said me if I am ready. He asked if was ready.
