🌟 ¿Qué significan There Is y There Are?

There is y there are significan hay. La diferencia depende de si hablamos de una cosa o de varias.

There isSe usa con sustantivos singulares.
There areSe usa con sustantivos plurales.
Idea claveUna cosa = there is. Varias cosas = there are.

📌 There Is

There is + sustantivo singular + complemento
  • There is a book on the table. - Hay un libro sobre la mesa.
  • There is a bank near here. - Hay un banco cerca de aquí.
  • There is a problem. - Hay un problema.
  • There is an apple in the bag. - Hay una manzana en la bolsa.
La contracción de there is es there's: There's a store nearby.

📌 There Are

There are + sustantivo plural + complemento
  • There are two books on the table. - Hay dos libros sobre la mesa.
  • There are many people outside. - Hay muchas personas afuera.
  • There are three chairs in the room. - Hay tres sillas en la habitación.
  • There are some apples in the bag. - Hay algunas manzanas en la bolsa.

🔄 Singular y plural

❌ Forma negativa

Para negar, agregamos not.

  • There isn't a problem. - No hay un problema.
  • There aren't any students. - No hay estudiantes.

Para hacer preguntas, colocamos is o are antes de there.

Is there + sustantivo singular?
  • Is there a bathroom here? - ¿Hay un baño aquí?
  • Is there a supermarket nearby? - ¿Hay un supermercado cerca?
Are there + sustantivo plural?
  • Are there any restaurants nearby? - ¿Hay restaurantes cerca?
  • Are there two rooms? - ¿Hay dos habitaciones?

Con there are usamos frecuentemente some en afirmativo y any en preguntas y negaciones.

  • There are some books on the desk. - Hay algunos libros sobre el escritorio.
  • Are there any questions? - ¿Hay preguntas?
  • There aren't any problems. - No hay problemas.
  • There is some water in the bottle. - Hay agua en la botella.
  • Is there any milk? - ¿Hay leche?
